The 18-minute film tells the crossed destinies story of “Today’s Algerians who struggle like this frozen fish that passes from hand to hand, from the Kabyle mountains to the coast, to finally come back to life and dive into the deep end of possibilities.

Second place was tied for two other short films Akhnif Abrbach (The coat of several colors) by Azeroual Tafat (Morocco) and A sentence to live by Omar Amroun (ِِ Algeria).

Although only the short films, six in total, were in competition, other productions were screened out of competition during the two days of the festival held within the grounds of Concordia University in Montreal: 6 feature films – films and 6 documentaries in Kabyle, Rifain, Tamasheq, Guanche, Tachelhit, Arabic, French.

Belkacem Hadjadj, president of the jury who presented his film Fadhma N’soumer out of competition, says that “what is expected of a short film is freshness because in general it is young filmmakers who do that, be it the freshness in the choice of the subject, the originality of the realization. And from that point of view, there were some films that stood out “

“This festival is important to Kabyle culture because it has been so ostracized. There have been so many people who have fought especially on the cultural level. And I think that “it is absolutely necessary to encourage events of this kind,” estimates for his part Soleïman Mellali, editor-in-chief and Radio Canada International and former presenter of the French television news program and member of the jury of this edition of the FIFAM. A festival jury is made up of personalities from Canada, Algeria and Morocco.
